Why people should listen to Country Music…

I think people who listen to country music are generally genuinely much happier.

Country music has this reputation of being whiny, downer, redneck music. In someways or another it actually does fit that reputation.

But think about it. The things that are the topics of Country songs are simple things, and what gives you more comfort than something thats simple? Songs about, hanging out on the porch with your friends, fond memories of being young, not wanting to drive to work on Monday, hearing your favorite song on the radio during a road trip, and so on. It doesn’t fill your head with unattainable materialistic thoughts.

OK so non-country songs sing about the same thing.

And yes, country songs can be about heart break, nostalgic feelings and be a little sad. The thing is everybody goes through funks and experiences those feelings. With, country songs, it makes you feel like it’s OK to feel that way, and because of that it comforts you. Non-country songs sometimes make you feel that if you’re not having fun, you’re a horrible person. And sometimes that just makes you feel worse. Example: “If you’re not getting drunk get the fuck out the club” from Shots-LMFAO and Lil John.

And whats different from other genre’s: Bands who sing emo songs are generally known for being emo. Country Artists sing about good times and times of struggle.

Dierks Bently, for example, has a song about telling a girl to “Come A Little Closer”. Then his next song is about a break up and how he’d “Settle for a Slowdown” as she’s driving away. Then his next song could be about his reckless adventures with a girl that he shouldn’t be seeing, “What Was I Thinking”.
